Midnightpaw said nothing. Nightpaw looked at her brother through the corner of her eye. The other eye was fixed on twilightsbreak who was in a pile of blood. Her heart was racing and she was feeling ill. MorningGlory trotted slowly up. Her stomach was aching. She stared in horror at the blood and rushed away. Blacksunset sighed and followed.

Nightpaw and her brother were frozen. Their jaws were open. Midnightpaw couldn't take his eyes off the forever growing puddle of deep red blood. Nightpaw was shaking with fear. She leaned against her brother for support and for once, he didn't object. Her fur was icy to the touch.

Nightpaw stood up straight. Her eyes flashed over to Moonkit and back to Twilightsbreak. Fear spread through her as Midnightpaw elbowed her. She looked at him and frowned. He looked at Moonkit and then at her.
"No," he whispered into her ear. She shook as his hot breath touched her ear. He looked like this was final. She nodded sadly and slumped down.
Midnightpaw was shocked. Absolutely shocked. Nothing more than that. His sister's crush on a kit was amazing to him. The proud and brave Nightpaw following for a kit. An orphan kit.

"Grayfur, go get some moss," Leaffall directed. Grayfur nodded and ran to a near by tree that was covered in moss. He tore it off with his jaws and ran back to Twilightsbreak. He watched frozen as Leaffall pressed the moss to the wound and the bleeding stopped. "There you should be fine," Leaffall meowed at last.

Nightpaw relaxed. Midnightpaw took a deep breath and walked away. Blacksunset was conforting MorningGlory. "It's over." Midnightpaw had no expression concering joy at all.

Grayfur nudged her aside and looked down at Twilightsbreak with sympathy in his eyes. "Well we need to get you back to camp. You can lean on my shoulder for support."

Grayfur looked at the kit and let out a purr of amusement. "We'll see about that kit." Grayfur turned to the direction of camp and slowly walked beside Twilightsbreak. As they entered camp, Ancientstar rushed to meet them. She sniffed the wound. "You better get some rest! I'll take over your duties in the morning."
